Apparo Accessibility Statement

Apparo is built around the belief that preparation for work and adult life should be genuinely available to everyone, including learners with disabilities, neurodivergent learners, and anyone who relies on assistive technology. This applies to the website you're reading now, and even more so to the learning platform itself, where accessibility is a founding design principle, not an add-on.

1. Our Target Standard

We are working towards WCAG 2.1 Level AA (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines), the widely recognised standard referenced by UK and international accessibility law. This is a target we are actively building towards, not yet a formally verified conformance claim.

Automated scans using Lighthouse and WAVE are performed periodically. Automated tools typically catch around a third of real accessibility issues, so a fuller manual review, including screen reader and keyboard-only testing, remains an ongoing commitment rather than a completed one.

2. What We've Already Built With Accessibility in Mind

● Plain, direct language throughout the site, avoiding unnecessary jargon.

● A colour palette and typography chosen for readability, not just brand.

● Content structured with clear headings, so it can be navigated in a logical order.

● No content that relies on colour alone to convey meaning.

3. Accessibility in the Apparo Learning Platform

The platform itself is built against a more extensive set of accessibility commitments, developed as part of our formal Learning Philosophy and instructional design standards. These include:

● A Flesch-Kincaid Grade 8 reading level target for all learner-facing text, checked against the actual formula, not judged by eye.

● Audio narration available on demand via a Read Aloud control, not autoplaying, so learners can choose to listen rather than read.

● No timed activities anywhere in the platform.

● Chunked, self-paced content with consistent, predictable navigation.

● No peer comparison or leaderboard features; progress stays private to the learner.

● Design and testing with a genuinely diverse range of learners before wider release, not just internal review.

These commitment guide all active development of the platform content.

4. Automated Testing Results

We have run automated accessibility scans across our main pages using Google Lighthouse and WAVE (WebAIM), two independent, widely used tools. Results as of July 2026:

6. Reviewing This Statement

We intend to run accessibility scanning after all complete significant updates, and will update this statement with the outcome. This statement will be reviewed periodically as the website and platform develop.
